What’s the Big Idea: Byung-chul Han

  • 1013 NW Taylor Ave. Corvallis, OR, 97330 USA (map)

We are starting a philosophy discussion club to engage with the ideas of philosophers, mysticism, the Weird, and other esoteric subjects that can help us make sense and make meaning in this world. You do not need to be familiar with the subject matter, but please come with an open and curious mind, ready to engage thoughtfully with the ideas at hand.

This month, we will discuss the work of Byung-chul Han, a Korean-German philosopher whose lyrical and readable work explores how late stage capitalism and neoliberalism creates internal conflict and violence within the individual psyche.

Masks required and provided.
Free to attend, we will pass the hat to help support the space.

Some potential group agreements for this gathering to consider:

  1. Engage with curiosity and question your assumptions.

  2. Address the ideas, not the person.

  3. Think well of each other.

  4. One speaker at a time. We will take stack.

  5. Share the space. Practice listening, and/or speak up.

  6. We will not resolve everything tonight!
